CDC is proud to announce it is working with Firmus Technologies and NVIDIA to deliver Project Southgate, an unprecedented national AI infrastructure rollout that brings together Australian ingenuity to deliver sustainable and cost-effective AI infrastructure at scale. This project marks a major leap forward for Australia’s digital innovation, advanced manufacturing, and clean energy transition.
Project Southgate is Australia’s blueprint for sovereign, renewable-powered AI infrastructure. By combining the expertise of CDC, Firmus, and NVIDIA, the project will deliver world-class AI capability at scale—driving productivity, supporting the clean energy transition, and ensuring Australia’s AI future is built on local innovation and under sovereign control.
As the data centre provider for Project Southgate, CDC will deliver the secure, resilient, and Australian-owned digital infrastructure underpinning this national initiative. Our facilities will help Project Southgate set the benchmark for AI sustainability, operating with near-zero water consumption and powered by 100% renewable energy.
“CDC is proud to provide the data centre infrastructure for Project Southgate and play a critical role in positioning Australia as a leader in sustainable AI,” said CDC Founder and CEO Greg Boorer. “This project will create thousands of safe, high-paying Australian jobs and showcase how homegrown innovation can shape the future of AI.”
Sovereign Capability: Majority Australian ownership and governance, with strategic protections for national interest.
Sustainability: Every stage powered by new renewable energy projects, supporting up to 5,100MW of clean generation across Tasmania, Victoria, New South Wales, and the ACT.
Job Creation: Up to 20,700 direct jobs by 2028 in construction, manufacturing, operations, and technical roles.
Innovation & Research: Sovereign AI infrastructure for Australian research, public sector, education, and start-ups—accelerating breakthroughs in health, climate, and advanced manufacturing.
Security: Government-grade security and compliance with Australian and global best practice standards.
The first stage, due to go live in the next six months, will feature of 18,500 of the latest NVIDIA GB300 GPUs, providing cutting-edge AI infrastructure to enterprise, education, government, start-up and scale-up users across Australia. Given the unique innovation involved in Project Southgate, NVIDIA has signed up as an anchor customer. This marks a major vote of confidence in Australia’s AI potential and the project’s global technical leadership.
Project Southgate is more than an infrastructure project—it’s a catalyst for national capability, economic growth, and sustainable innovation. CDC is committed to working with partners and stakeholders to ensure Australia leads the world in scalable, sovereign AI infrastructure.
